Missions
Abroad Placement Service (MAPS) is designed to involve men and women
in foreign missionary service on a short-term basis. MAPS applies
the skills and interests of dedicated individuals who wish to be used
by God in overseas missions ministries. Through MAPS, every believer
has an opportunity to be involved in fulfilling Jesus' commission
to "go and make disciples of all nations" by assisting career missionaries
around the world.
What opportunities
does MAPS offer?
Several types of opportunities for service are possible.
Teams from local churches and colleges can minister in these ways:
- College outreach teams. MAPS provides a strong
link between Assemblies of God colleges and the foreign field.
Colleges can easily coordinate their outreachesdrama groups,
choirs, ensembles and evangelistic teamsthrough the MAPS
Office.
Individuals can participate
with MAPS in these ways:
- College interns. The MAPS office works with
Assemblies of God colleges and universities to provide placement in eight- to 12-week
assignments designed to meet the educational requirements for
a ministry-oriented internship.
- Other qualified persons. The MAPS office provides
placement for interested and qualified individuals, from students
to retirees, in many types of assignments lasting from one to
five months.* These opportunities include local church ministries,
coffeehouse ministry, Teen Challenge centers, crusades, libraries,
Bible schools, building maintenance, housekeeping, literature
production, Vacation Bible Schools, youth and children's ministries
and evangelistic outreaches.

two years, visit the Missionary
Associates area of this Web site.
Who can get involved?
To participate in the MAPS program a person should be…
- At least 18 years old.
- A mature Christian who accepts the fundamental
beliefs of the Assemblies of God.
- Active in the ministry of, and in good standing
with, the local church.
- Single or married without children.*
*In most cases couples with dependent
children cannot be placed through MAPS because of the limited budget
policies and/or lack of available housing.
How can one get involved?
Download the MAPS application packet
(see below),
print out, complete and then mail to the MAPS office. For your convenience,
printed forms can also be mailed to you by request.
What about the costs?
MAPS volunteers are responsible for their own travel and living
expenses while on assignment. While itineration is not permitted,
funds may be raised from a home church, friends, family and personal
accounts. The MAPS office will provide budget information to guide
in the support-raising process. The volunteer should also consider
the possible costs of a passport, a visa, immunizations and insurance.
Finances
- Volunteer position: The MAPS volunteer
is expected to raise financial support for travel/living expenses
through personal funds, local church, family and friends.
- Support Raising: Once the MAPS Office
notifies the applicant that placement is finalized, the volunteer
can then start to raise funds.
- Budget: The MAPS volunteer's budget
is established by the host missionary and MAPS Office. The total
budget generally includes room/board, insurance, visa (if applicable),
ground transportation on the field; it does not include airfare.
- MAPS volunteers handle the finances personally
without sending them in to an AGWM account. The MAPS office provides
a receipt book which the volunteer uses as contributions are given;
a copy of the receipt is given to the donor and another copy is
sent in to the MAPS office. At the end of the trip the volunteer
reports all contributions and how they were spent; the MAPS office
provides a simple form for that purpose. All contributors will
then receive a receipt from AGWM. More detailed instructions are
provided once the volunteer has been approved and placed.
