Description of needs
MAPS Construction teams can really help the Ministry Center in Tarragona achieve their goal of "acceleration of church planting in Spain." In this country where only about 0.5% of the population are born again (approximately 5 people per thousand), there are many small, struggling churches. With MAPS Construction teams, we can accelerate the planting of churches basically through the remodeling of storefronts. Like in the early days of the Assemblies of God in the USA, most of our churches here in Spain are in storefronts.
Very few of these churches have project numbers as of yet. In working through the Tarragona Ministry Center these AGWM project numbers should be easily obtainable. Most of these churches are pastored by brave men and women who cannot be full time in the ministry for financial reasons. They pastor congregations of around 35 to 50 people as well as holding down a full time job and taking care of their families. Of course there are larger congregations in Spain, but the ones we are most interested in helping are the smaller, more needy churches that are scattered all over the country. The storefronts that these congregations meet in are mostly brick and plaster. They need help in the areas of tile men, plumbers, electricians, cabinet makers, painters, brick layers, and some carpentry.
Spain, being an European country, is expensive. Per diem expenses probably will be in the $35-40 range. There are countries where you can have more spectacular results, such as putting up an entire church structure instead of remodeling a storefront. There are many countries where the per diem expenses are much lower. But I doubt that there are many countries where the Gospel can be preached openly and the need for help is greater.
