Three hundred and seventy-five
Hispanic pastors, district leaders, missionaries and others attended the
Hispanic Fly-In on April 8-9, 2011, at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel in
Elizabeth, New Jersey.
The event was hosted by the
Spanish Eastern District of the Assemblies of God with assistance from the AGWM Mobilization department.
The conference, which began
Friday afternoon, was moderated by Spanish Eastern District Missions Director
Domingo Valdes, with greetings and prayer from District Superintendent Rafael
Reyes.
Sessions included how to receive
a faith promise, reports from AGWM regional directors, testimonies from
Hispanic missionaries, videos, and a report from Convoy of Hope International.
An evening banquet included a
dynamic choir presentation from Living Water Christian Center in El Paso,
Texas, where Jose Portillo is pastor, titled “All Generations.” L. John Bueno gave the keynote message. David
Lee presented a missions update through a PowerPoint presentation.
Saturday’s schedule included
sessions from Speed the Light, Women’s Ministries, BGMC and more reports from
AGWM regional directors and other missionaries.
Benny Ferguson, one of the presenters, commented: “The primary
purpose of this Fly-In was to expose pastors, churches and mission boards in
the Hispanic community to a greater level of missions involvement.”
Ferguson continued: “These
retreats broaden the missions base on two levels. First, they get more churches
involved. Pastors attended who have never been to a Fly-In before. Second, we
are helping everyone understand new techniques and methods of reaching out to
our missionaries, and ways of encouraging local congregations to get more
involved in missions.”
The missions offering received
during the Fly-In came to $7,508. Faith Promises for the next 12 months totaled
$940 a month.
Each year a different Hispanic district hosts this event. Information on the 2012 Hispanic Fly-In will be posted as information becomes available.
