Excitement and participation were high at the March 23-24 Hispanic Fly-In held at the North Sheraton Hotel near the George Bush International Airport in Houston, Texas. Superintendent J.R. Rodriguez and the Texas Louisiana Hispanic District hosted the event with more than 300 people attending. Seven of the 12 Hispanic districts, including all four new Hispanic districts, were represented.
Regional directors presented reports, and area directors from Latin America/Caribbean gave updates on missions in that region. At the request of the Hispanic Missions team, topics such as human trafficking, HIV/AIDS, unreached people groups and Tabernacle Evangelism also were included. Information also was given on how Hispanic churches can participate in MAPS and other teams sponsored by AGWM. Two students from Latin America Bible Institute reported on their recent involvement in short-term missions trips.
Executive Director Greg Mundis spoke at the banquet, admonishing attendees not to judge a person by his or her outward appearance. The choir from Living Waters Assembly in El Paso, Texas, under the direction of Nellie Portillo, presented the missions musical – “Committed.” Missionaries from Hispanic districts were introduced during the evening and an offering was received for their support.
During the final service Superintendent Rodriquez gave an impassioned plea for Hispanic missionaries. Five young men responded to the call to become missionaries.
